December 3, 1997

So are you all recovered from your Thanksgiving Gluttony? I wasn't sure I'd ever recover. UGH. And I just had my leftovers tonight, too. *yummy!* ;)

I can't believe it's December already.

And in less than two weeks I turn 27. I can feel my bones creaking already. *GROAN*

Well let's see.. what to talk about?

How about yesterday's stupid human trick, courtesy of yours truly?

I can't believe I'm going to post this but... I was out on sales calls in the afternoon, and I parked my car in the street on Randolph Street, which for the most part is a decent street, but along this stretch it's a little run-down. Anyway, I parked the car, and sat there for a while preparing things for my sales call.

I sat there for about 10 minutes getting things ready, and then got out of the car, locked the door and began walking....

Then I realized what I had done. I reached into my pocket-- no keys.

I then checked my car... guess what!!!!!!!!!!! They were laying on the passenger seat, right there in the wide-open for anyone to see. I didn't know what else to do-- I just went to my appointment, hoping that maybe someone there would know what I could do.

The people I spoke to told me that there was a locksmith across the street. I hoped that maybe they could jimmy my door open or something. Unfortunately, when I went over there, the only thing they could do for me was make a replacement key- if I had the key code. So I called Great America to see if they could get the key code for me-- they did, and the locksmith ground me a new key. I walked back over to my car, which was about four blocks away, and tried the key. It didn't work.

So I trudged back over to the locksmith. They were surprised that the key didn't work. I had looked at the keys on my car seat and noticed that the one that was on my seat didn't match the one I had at all. So we didn't know what else we could do. We figured that maybe if I got the VIN number off the dashboard, we could call the dealership and see if they knew the keycode. Back and forth I went again to the car, to get the number. We called the dealer and they called back 15 minutes later with the same number that I got from Great America. I was pretty much ready to throw a stone through the window now.

The locksmith decided to try grinding another key, in hopes that maybe he got the first one wrong. I figured it was worth a shot; anything to avoid vandalizing my own car.

I took the new key back and IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!! I was so excited (and relieved). I drove back to the locksmith to thank him profusely.

And to think it only cost me $7.00. ;)

In other news.... Not much. Tom's been busy moving himself to Chicago once and for all, going from Michigan to Chicago and back again... so I haven't seen too much of him, really.

This weekend is our company Christmas party-- it's a big shin-dig apparently, and I've heard a lot about it already. I could win a trip to London.... that would be fun! :) So we'll see what happens there. But really not much else to talk about so I'll close- hope everyone out there is doing well-- is anyone out there? Please drop me a line if you are, and let me know what you think of all this. I don't hear much. :)
